By age 17 he had landed a contract with MGM to be part of a band backing a new singing prospect and got the opportunity to work with emminent producer Tom Wilson (The Velvet Underground, Frank Zappa's Mother of Inverntion). The days recording in NYC were shortlived when a lack of backing saw the record go nowhere on the charts. Back in Dallas, Bruce began working local landmarks like Lou Ann's and played alternating sets with The Mystics (Don Henley's old group) and The Chessman(Jimmy Vaughn and Doyle Bramhall). Later he formed a band with keyboardist Mike Kindred (Joe Ely) and vocalist Bruce Boland(from Stevie Ray Vaughn's band Crackerjack) and sat in with such greats as Charlie Pride, Mark Beno and The Spencer Davis Group. Bruce then joined Cisco, a popular local Band during the 70's and later played with James Lynn Marsh's Executive Group. During that time he played shows with Ann Peebles, and The Dramatics. It was then that he knew soul, blues, jazz and R&B would be his playing focus for years to come. Recently, Bruce was instrumental in bringing Debie Babcock's talents into the limelight, playing with her first band, Guilty Concience, and later with the Dallas Heat. After a stint with another local band, Eight Ball and The Breakers, Bruce met Tommy Hill and has been playing publicly and helping arrange Tommy's original music for the last several years. After over 35 years of performing, Bruce considers himself to be a journeyman R&B guitarist and won't quit picking until he's six feet under. He feels that music and the feelings it engenders in people are a positive force in nature, and his mission is to share the joy of music with as many people as possible. |
